Nobody can't stop discoI designed this level for a school project with the idea of finding the fast pace and disco gamefeel of Hotline Miami. The player will have to find ways to lay waste inside of a nightclub with limited ammo and only 1hp

Key Mechanic

As in my main reference, Hotline Miami, both player and ennemies die in one hit so I had to fiddle a bit with the rules of the engine to make ennemies way more fragile.I also found that it was possible to teleport the player back to a checkpoint right after having died so I experimented on this to find the right gamefeel for my "quick die-and-retry" feature.
Level and narrative design
A nightclub
As the character enters through the backdoor of a nightclub, I wanted to create something both unsettling and familiar for the player.As the assets included in the engine already allowed for something very liminal-looking, I went for building familiar places such as toilets, changing rooms and bars to make it easy for the player to get a grip of where they were at all times.I included various points of interest, each giving a few precious ressources (ammo, mainly, but also keys to the next level), scattered around a hub to create a sort of safe place the player could come back to between two rushes of adrenaline.Beside that, every room was built as a bullet hell, tried and iterated on many times on several people to make sure they were both punishing and rewarding.
